Renewables supplied more than half of EU electricity in the second quarter.
Eurostat reports that renewable sources generated 54.1% of electricity in the European Union in the second quarter of 2026. The figure is marginally below the same quarter a year earlier, so it should not be read as a simple straight-line trend. Its operational meaning is more useful: renewable generation is already central to system performance. For utilities, network operators and energy-intensive businesses, the work now is to match that generation with grid capacity, flexible demand, storage and contracts that keep a high-renewables system dependable through different seasons.
